| Product Summary | The acid pump antagonist program targeting gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is in Phase 1 for the first development candidate compound, RQ-4. An acid pump antagonist has a different mechanism for controlling the secretion of stomach acids in the treatment of GERD from the current drug of choice, the proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Compared to PPIs, in animal models RQ-4 has been shown to be faster in controlling the secretion of stomach acids and to have a sustained effect. In the stage I clinical test conducted in the U.S., RQ-4's safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics were confirmed. Also, pharmacological properties, including its rapid and potent inhibition of stomach acids from the first dose, its effectiveness independent of stomach acid secretion stimulated by meals, and its inhibition of stomach acid secretion at night when administered before sleeping, were confirmed using biomarkers. |
